Fort Laramie was established in 1834 as a fur trading post. It was abandoned in 1890 after becoming the largest and best known military post in the Northern Plains area. It is located in eastern Wyoming off of state highway 160.
The site consists of a visitor center and many of the original building. Visitors, including dogs, are welcome to wander the grounds but pets are restricted from entering the buildings. You will also find a nice, well shaded picnic area. Summer months can frequently exceed 100 degrees and sub-zero temperatures are not uncommon during the winter months so prepare yourself and your pet accordingly.
